It’s been about a month and a half since I decided to go full-time with my business. In that short amount of time, so much has happened. I continue to grow my client base and I’m trying new ideas as often as possible. Motivating others has been extremely rewarding, fun, and even a little exhausting! Many people think that as a personal trainer, all you do is workout all day – that is just one of the many aspects of this profession. That subject is one that does need to be addressed, but I’ll save that for another post. For today, I’d like to touch on a couple of things I’ve learned in my short time as a small business owner.

Plan, but know that it will always change.
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m a planner, and always have been. Not having a plan will give me anxiety and in general doesn’t even make sense in my head. Well, that doesn’t really matter in this new world I’m in. Each week, hell, each day I wake up with a plan, and within the first couple hours things have changed. You see, I’ve learned when working for others, you work by their schedules. When their schedule changes, so does yours. Unfortunately being a fitness trainer puts you well behind family, work, and friend obligations (understandably so).  Rescheduling happens often.  I want to be clear, I am not complaining about this, I know that this is part of the business and I’m learning to embrace it.

Attitude is everything.
Now this one I’ve known for a while and it has actually been my motto this past year.  In the last month or so it’s had an even deeper meaning. I already know that my attitude affects the way that I feel inside and can determine the outcome of my day. I’m now realizing what it can do for others. Since I am constantly working with other people and continually trying to motivate, my attitude is everything! What’s amazing is how much power I have! Someone can come in for a session in a crummy mood – I can either let it get to me too or switch it and have them leaving the session feeling great about themselves. It’s up to me, and it’s 100% worth it every single time!
There have been some wonderful highs and some scary lows so far, but I’m excited to see what’s next and so motivated to continue!
